It is important to think of your blog as a journey. If you don’t follow a direction when you go on a journey then you won’t get to your end destination. The same is true of your blog. If you don’t have a destination in mind, then you may get lost, you might go off track, or you might end up somewhere you didn’t intend to. So let’s examine your blog journey, where are you going?

Make a Plan for Your Blog Journey

Your blog can be a fantastic tool for funneling your readers into taking action. You can take them on a journey with your posts and end up at the destination with sales, a ton of engagement, newsletter subscribers or some other success entirely. But it is important to decide where the journey is going to take your readers so that you can give them accurate directions with each blog post.

So here is what you need to do.

Set Some Goals

Grab some pen, paper and a quiet spot to think. Jot down your goals for your blog.

What do you want to achieve?

  • Increased traffic to your website?
  • Gain more newsletter subscribers?
  • Promote a particular product or service?
  • Show yourself as an expert in your field?

Whatever you choose, you need to ensure that the goals are practical, measurable and specific. You also need to regularly check that your content matches what you are trying to achieve with your goals.

Know Your Target Audience

There is no point producing phenomenal content if your ideal reader isn’t ever going to see it. Make sure you are targeting your content at the correct audience. Do some research on who your target audience are.

What are their pains? How can you help them?

With that information in mind, start creating your content. Write for your ideal client so that you attract the right readers.

Make a Plan for Your Blog Journey

At the same time that you are setting your goals, it’s a good idea to plan your content too. If you have set yourself a 90 day goal, then plan out 90 days of content. You don’t have to write it all at the time of planning, but a rough idea of what you will post is helpful.

Plan out:

  • Blog Titles and a brief overview of content
  • The frequency that you will post at
  • How you will tie in your newsletter and social media accounts
  • A Call to Action for your readers

This will stop you having a last minute panic the night before your blog is due to be posted. Even if you have to write the post last minute, you won’t have to come up with all your ideas. You will also know that the post will fit into your blog journey and you are working towards getting your reader to the right destination.
